Subject IP Address of CME's Internet Servers to change on 9/8/2001
Effective Date 08/31/01
Notice Number CM#0160

During the early morning hours of Saturday, September 8th, 2001, CME will migrate its World Wide Web server (www.cme.com) and FTP server (ftp.cme.com) to a new host. Associated with this change, the Internet Protocol (IP) address of these servers will change.

Currently the IP address is 199.95.73.19.

The NEW IP address will be 199.93.174.200.

This change will take effect at approximately 3 a.m. (Central Standard Time) Chicago time on Saturday, September 8, 2001. Beginning in the week prior to September 8th, all datafiles now available at ftp.cme.com will also be accessible on the new server. After this change occurs, all datafiles will be available on both the old and the new servers for approximately one week.

We are providing notice of this change for two reasons.

First, because of the way the Internet works, the time it takes for the IP address change to propagate throughout the Internet will not be the same for all users. For a very small minority of users, it is possible that on Monday September 10, 2001, the server names www.cme.com and ftp.cme.com will still be pointing to the old server. If this has occurred, you may access the new server directly via its IP address if necessary. Similarly, if the address change has already taken into effect, you will still be able to access the old server directly via its IP address.

Second, some users who have firewalls between their local network and the Internet, may have specified the IP address of the CME servers directly in their firewall, as an IP address to which access is allowed. If so, you will need either to change the specified IP address to the new value, or to add the new value as an additional address to which access is allowed. Adding the new value as an additional allowed address is the preferred approach, since it can be completed and tested at any time prior to September 8, 2001.
